Back again! My fav fav fav songs of all time. I’m not lying, this isn’t me scrounging around to find “content”. This is real guys. REAL.
Today we have not one, but TWO songs by Mr. Neil Young (of ex-Spotify fame). 005 is for free subscribers, 006 is for paid subaroos. Two incredible songs, two stunning melodies.
005 - Neil Young - Little Wing
I’ve always found Neil Young to be incredibly complex in his simplicity. There’s a truth, a pain, a misery and beauty to his music that is both as hard as concrete as it is fleeting and impossible to pin down. Perhaps much like bamboo, he’s both strong and weak, something that I really admire and lacking from most male artists.
This song feels like a hand of chiclet feathers. It is called little wing after all. You can hear the wood of the guitar, the tips of his fingers. I’m not sure if he’s literally singing about a small bird that visits him in the summertime, or a metaphor for a love that flew away. I’d like to think neither and both at the same time.
The song is just over two minutes long, and only two verses. But from the first time I heard it until now, it still stops me in my tracks, and gives me room to breathe.
