*Disclaimer (or perhaps confession…[or even qualification]): I was a resident DJ at London’s high-end hifi bar Spiritland from 2018-19, so there is a level of hypocrisy or irony that I’m more than aware of by writing this month’s newsletter.
I adore the fact that these news letters are like more highly edited podcasts. The food fad comparisons were on point. I too think a population would have to be large enough to have enough “slow music” enjoyers to support the listening venue. It would have to be a well funded passion project and I wish one would open here. Perhaps a restaurant concept with an attached sound proof listening bar to separate the money making side from the more purpose driven acoustic destination. Either way I would love to hear more about your experiences as a DJ and think we all deserve more playlists in this vein. Thoroughly enjoyed this one DG!
“It made me wonder, when you have speakers as large as Spiritland did, when does a hifi bar become a club? Or is that against the rules?”
another great newsletter! and another great sonos name drop!
Not ANOTHER :P thank u for reading Maggie <3
A cracking article Derrick! It’s the first one I’ve read of yours and I’m looking forward to reading more of your fine words.
Though I have to say you’ve been going to the wrong tapas bars clearly! :p
